Ronaldo gives Serie A much-needed shot in the arm
Juventus have always had an obsession with the Champions League and the stunning £88m acquisition of Cristiano Ronaldo only emphasises their relentless pursuit of glory.Such an investment in Ronaldo, with €120m committed in wages alone, would usually be considered an enormous risk at 33 years old.
But fresh from a seventh straight title, Juve can be forgiven for gathering up their chips and going all in. While their intentions are purely selfish, Ronaldo’s arrival cannot help but resurrect what was once the world’s greatest league.
By association, this is a golden opportunity that Italy’s biggest clubs must seize, even if a title race fails to blossom in the short-term. The focus is back on Serie A with Jose Mourinho immediately proclaiming it to be the most important championship in the world.
